4 minutes, 20 seconds

Illuminate missions can turn ugly fast. One minute you're holding a clean firing line, the next you've got shields, drones, patrols, and some poor teammate yelling because the truck is on fire again. That's where a heavy gunner setup earns its place. If you're trying out new kits or building around different stratagems, having more Helldivers 2 Items gives you room to test what actually works instead of copying whatever looks loud on paper.
| Gear | Best use | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| Gallant | Steady primary fire when the machine gun is cooling or empty | Don't waste shots into strong shields without support |
| Bushwhacker | Close-range emergency kills | It's not a plan, it's a last-second fix |
| Land Mines | Blocking choke points and slowing pushes | Bad placement can wipe your own squad |
| Guard Dog | Clearing weak enemies from blind angles | It won't save you from poor positioning |
| Napalm Strike | Cutting off crowds and forcing space | Wind, slopes, and panic throws make it nasty |
You'll notice it after a few rough drops: high ground buys time. It gives you sightlines, cleaner machine-gun arcs, and a better chance to spot a patrol before it walks into your back. Still, don't act like a hill is a bunker. Illuminate fire can knock you sideways, and explosions have a funny way of turning confidence into a long fall. Set up, shoot, relocate, and keep checking the map. A heavy gunner who moves late usually becomes the reason everyone else has to sprint.
Strafing runs and napalm are brilliant when they're called with a bit of thought. They're also the fastest way to create that awkward silence after three blue skulls appear. Don't throw them at your feet just because the enemy looks close. Give the line room. Say it out loud if you have to. Vehicles need the same attitude. Use them, enjoy them, then accept they'll probably explode because someone reversed into a rock, parked under fire, or dropped a grenade while climbing out.
The heavy gunner isn't meant to be a solo hero. You're the player who keeps lanes quiet, buys reload time, and makes messy objectives feel possible. Against Illuminate units, burst damage and armour penetration tend to feel better than gimmicky choices, especially when shields are involved. If you're expanding your armoury with cheap Helldivers 2 Items, test each setup in real missions and pay attention to what helps the team survive, not just what gets the biggest kill count. Stay loud, stay mobile, and if a grenade lands at your boots, don't ask who threw it.
