EA FC 27 is taking a major step toward more skill-based and expressive football, giving players greater control over both attacking and defending. The latest iteration focuses on reducing unnecessary automation, improving player movement, and making passing, crossing, and tackling more dependent on user input. These changes could have a significant impact on competitive matches and Ultimate Team squad building, making it important for players to understand the new mechanics before deciding how to use FIFA 27 Coins.
One of the most noticeable changes is the reduction of AI auto tackles in competitive gameplay. In previous FC titles, AI-controlled defenders could sometimes automatically attempt to win the ball, even when the user was not directly controlling them. FC 27 shifts more responsibility toward the player. Defenders will continue to position themselves and react when the ball comes close, but users must decide when and how to make a tackle. EA says the AI will primarily react to the ball's proximity rather than simply tracking the opposing player. This should make defensive success more dependent on positioning, anticipation, and timing.
Manual defending is receiving further improvements through increased jockey speed. Compared with last year's game, manually controlled defenders can move more effectively when tracking quick attackers. The range of manually triggered standing tackles has also been expanded, giving players more opportunities to challenge for possession. These changes should make defending feel more responsive while rewarding users who understand how to control space.
Set pieces are becoming more interactive as well. Corner kicks now provide players with greater control over attacking players inside the box. After selecting a delivery, users can switch between players, adjust their positioning, make runs, shield defenders, and use new evasive movement mechanics. This creates more possibilities for attackers to escape crowded areas and establish better positions before the ball arrives.
Crossing is also being redesigned around precision. Previous FC games relied heavily on assisted crossing, which could result in predictable trajectories and repetitive finishing situations. In FC 27, the direction and power of the user's input have a much greater effect on the final delivery. Instead of automatically sending the ball toward an attacker's feet, players can target open areas and allow teammates to attack the space. This should create more variety and make accurate crossing a more valuable skill.
Headers and finishing have received additional animation variety too. Attackers may stretch, dive, adjust their bodies, or change their positioning depending on the incoming ball. While this should produce more realistic moments, perfectly connecting with crosses and corners may become less common because of the increased skill requirement. When everything comes together, however, scoring a powerful header should feel considerably more rewarding.
Attacking AI has also been improved to better understand space. In earlier games, AI attackers could sometimes react too slowly when an opening appeared behind the defense. FC 27 aims to address this with smarter and more responsive curved runs. Teammates should now make more contextually appropriate movements to support the user's attacking decisions.
Players will have even greater control over off-ball movement through new manually triggered runs. The curved run mechanic allows an attacker to bend their movement around the defensive line, potentially creating a better route toward goal or helping them avoid an offside situation. The downside is that curved runs take longer to execute than standard forward runs, so timing will be critical. Pass-and-flow runs add another option by allowing the player who makes a pass to curve their follow-up movement, either overlapping or cutting inside for a return ball.
Passing is becoming more demanding as well. Through passes now rely more heavily on directional input instead of automatically steering toward available lanes. Players need to determine where they want the ball to travel and execute the input accurately. This creates a better balance between attacking creativity and defensive anticipation because defenders who correctly read the intended direction have a greater chance of making an interception.
Dinked passes follow the same philosophy. Precise aiming and power are now more important, meaning players will need greater control to consistently execute this type of pass. Together, these changes raise the skill ceiling and reduce the influence of overly assisted mechanics.
EA has also rebalanced PlayStyles after community feedback. Certain PlayStyles previously had too much influence in specific situations, so FC 27 gives player attributes a more important role. Finesse Shot, for example, now depends more heavily on shooting attributes. Low Driven shots have also received a reduced speed boost, with their velocity scaling more naturally according to shooting ability and input power. The overall goal is to make both PlayStyles and attributes meaningful without allowing either system to become overwhelmingly powerful.
Outside traditional matches, The Grounds introduces a completely new social experience. Featuring a central terrace and three distinct districts inspired by French, Argentinian, and UK football culture, the area provides access to different activities in one shared environment. Players can participate in 11v11 drop-ins, club activities, leagues, playoffs, and smaller matches such as 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 games. Rush matches, obstacle courses, target challenges, possession games, Bucket Ball, and other activities provide additional ways to enjoy football in a more casual setting.
Career Mode is also receiving meaningful changes. The transfer system has been overhauled, with negotiations now progressing through different stages and offering more clauses and contract options. EA has redesigned the transfer interface into a more accessible 2D hub, making it easier for managers to follow negotiations. Dynamic Overall Ratings add another layer of realism by allowing player ratings to change according to form, confidence, fitness, injuries, playing time, and competition for places.
Ultimate Team introduces the FUT Gallery, giving players a way to preserve their club's history. Player items can be added to collections even after they leave the active squad. Completing sets can unlock cosmetics, Gallery Tokens, kits, badges, and other rewards, providing another long-term objective for collectors.
Overall, FC 27 is built around greater control and more meaningful decisions. From manual defending and precise passing to intelligent attacking runs, improved set pieces, Dynamic OVR, The Grounds, and the FUT Gallery, the game introduces changes across nearly every major mode. For Ultimate Team players, adapting to these mechanics early and managing cheap FC27 Coins wisely could help create a strong foundation for the new season.
