Meta Description: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is entering its biggest pre-launch phase COD MW4 Bot Lobbies, with a campaign mission, multiplayer beta, Warzone content, and an October 23 release.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now entering one of its most important stages before launch. Activision has confirmed the full beta schedule, revealed a first-ever campaign mission for a Call of Duty beta, and confirmed that Warzone will also be part of the testing period. With Call of Duty NEXT arriving August 21, players are about to get a much deeper look at the game's multiplayer, movement, weapons, maps and broader gameplay direction.
The Modern Warfare 4 beta begins with Early Access on August 21 and runs through August 25. This phase is available to eligible players who pre-ordered the game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S or PC.
The second phase starts on August 28 and runs until September 1. Unlike the first weekend, the Open Beta does not require a preorder and will be available across all announced platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2.
One of the biggest surprises is the inclusion of campaign content. For the first time in Call of Duty history, a beta will feature a playable single-player mission.
That mission is called “Entrenched.” It will be available during both beta periods, giving players an early opportunity to experience part of the campaign rather than focusing exclusively on multiplayer.
The first weekend focuses heavily on traditional multiplayer, with modes including Team Deathmatch, Domination, Hardpoint, Kill Confirmed, Search & Destroy, Gunfight and Kill Block.
The Open Beta expands the package with additional content, including Ground War and Warzone. This makes the second weekend particularly important for players who want to test more than standard 6v6 multiplayer.
Key dates:
· August 21–25: Early Access Beta
· August 21: Call of Duty NEXT
· August 28–September 1: Open Beta
· October 23: Full game launch
Another major headline surrounding Modern Warfare 4 is Warzone. For the first time, a Call of Duty beta will allow players to test Warzone content before the full release.
The Open Beta introduces Zodiac, a new Resurgence map featuring industrial areas, large structures and open combat spaces. It should provide an early indication of how the new Modern Warfare gameplay systems translate into Warzone.
Ground War will also become playable during the Open Beta, adding another large-scale experience alongside traditional multiplayer.
For competitive players, the beta will therefore be more than a simple preview. It will provide an opportunity to test weapons, movement, map flow and killstreaks while also seeing how those systems perform in larger battles.
Beta Tip: PC players should make sure TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot are enabled before trying to enter the beta. These requirements are specifically listed for PC beta participation.
The campaign is another major part of the latest Modern Warfare 4 news. The playable “Entrenched” mission gives players an early look at the game's cinematic direction and combat design.
The campaign focuses on a major conflict involving the Korean Peninsula, with Captain Price and other returning characters playing important roles in the new storyline. Recent promotional material has also highlighted characters including Valeria, increasing interest in how the new narrative connects with the existing Modern Warfare universe.
Giving players campaign access during the beta is a significant change from the traditional Call of Duty formula. Instead of waiting until launch to judge the single-player experience, players can now provide feedback on at least one mission weeks before release.
Modern Warfare 4 is also expanding beyond the traditional campaign, multiplayer and Warzone structure with a new DMZ experience.
The extraction-style mode is expected to provide a different gameplay loop built around exploration, combat, risk and resource management. That could give MW4 considerably more long-term variety if the mode launches in a strong state.
The combination of multiplayer, campaign, Warzone and DMZ means there is a lot more riding on the beta than simply weapon balance.
The next major information drop arrives with Call of Duty NEXT on August 21 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. Activision is expected to showcase multiplayer gameplay, developer insights and additional information before the beta officially gets underway.
This event could reveal more about maps, weapons, movement mechanics, progression and the overall multiplayer meta.
For players who skipped previous previews or remained skeptical about MW4, NEXT should provide the clearest look yet at what Infinity Ward has built.
The full game launches worldwide on October 23, 2026, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will not release on PS4 or Xbox One, making MW4 a current-generation-only Call of Duty experience.
Modern Warfare 4 is shaping up to have one of the most content-heavy beta periods in recent Call of Duty history. With campaign, multiplayer, Ground War and Warzone all entering testing, the next few weeks should reveal whether Infinity Ward can deliver a strong launch experience.
Modern Warfare 4's Early Access Beta begins August 21, while the Open Beta runs August 28–September 1. The beta includes the “Entrenched” campaign mission, multiplayer and, during the second phase, Warzone's new Zodiac Resurgence map.
The biggest date to watch is August 21, when Call of Duty NEXT and the first beta weekend arrive together.
