    Seed shells that refuse to fall off the cotyledons are common with sativa seedlings and can strangle the first true leaves if left alone. A drop of water on the shell and a few minutes of patience usually softens it enough to slip off with tweezers, though tearing it off dry often takes a cotyledon with it.
