The endgame of Path of Exile 2 has been hailed as rich but complained of frustrating, particularly due to a prolonged series of rebalances that seem to have resulted in the difficulty, flow, and rewards of PoE 2 Currency combining in a frustrating way. Specifically, the 0.3.1 patch addresses the annoying mechanics, and the currency seems to be an instrument of movement, rather than a post-hoc loot. These alterations transform chores into a choice, and players are left to do what they like doing the most.

The changes that will be the most welcome include the renovation of tower mechanics that previously compelled players to do repetitive tasks to enable maps. Towers are also no longer required: The player can have up to three tablets to claim map bonuses directly. This reduces idle time spent in doing busy work and farmers have more time to kill the monsters that drop Currency rather than running around towers. It is a minor change but it makes the long map sessions less exhausting.

Even map design has become intelligent. The 15 largest endgame maps have been reduced in size, and the tier-one maps contain fewer monster packs- this accelerates the runs and is not too penal to the rewards. And even more, each map now has 1-3 guaranteed bonus features (such as Expeditions or Shrines), to ensure that players do not leave without anything. In the case of Currency farmers, it implies less grinding time with greater drops.

Endgame is also easier to survive due to combat balance changes, which indirectly increases Currency gains. Monster critical strike now takes a 40 per cent less damage and the much-despised "flask charge siphon" suffix now soaks up only 10 per cent of its previous rate. Less hard hits also have environmental hazards, such as burning ground, so the players do not lose their progress (and possible loot) to cheap one-shots. Living longer will result in additional maps and additional currency.

Currency farming receives a further complication with the new Abyssal League. Abyssal fissures have treasure troves, and the final abyssal safes yield valuable Currency such as encrypted Exalted Orbs. The orbs contain hidden mods to equipment, which enable players to have greater control over crafting than ever before. It is an ideal illustration of the manner in which the update connects currency to exploration and development.

GGG has not lost consciousness of the economy balance, however. Whereas Currency drops are a more regular one, the patch eliminates low-value filler of endgame loot pools. As an example, Chaos Trials will no longer drop useless (corrupted currency), but instead replace them with stacks of rare orbs. This leaves the market steady and every drop will count.

The endgame of Path of Exile 2 is the first game that lives up to its potential by having the quality of the gameplay tied to the path of exile 2 currency progression.
