Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is now one of the hottest topics in the FPS community, with the Early Access Beta already underway and the second, open beta weekend approaching. Infinity Ward has been using player feedback to adjust weapons, movement, buy COD MW4 Bot Lobbies, audio and multiplayer balance ahead of launch.
With the first beta weekend running through August 25 and the open beta scheduled for August 28 through September 1, players now have a much clearer picture of what MW4 is bringing to the table.
The biggest Modern Warfare 4 story right now is the beta. Weekend One Early Access began on August 21 for eligible players on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, while Weekend Two will open the beta to everyone across supported platforms, including Nintendo Switch 2.
The open beta begins at 10:00 AM PT on August 28 and runs until 10:00 AM PT on September 1. No preorder or beta code is required for Weekend Two.
The first weekend has already produced plenty of feedback, particularly around weapon balance, footstep audio, movement and matchmaking. Infinity Ward has responded quickly with beta updates, showing that player feedback is already influencing the experience before launch.
The latest patch added a new 6v6 map, introduced additional gameplay adjustments and addressed audio and weapon balance concerns. Official patch notes also highlight ongoing bug fixes and tuning based on community conversations.
That quick response is important because a Call of Duty beta is effectively a stress test for the game's multiplayer systems. Instead of simply showing unfinished content, MW4's current testing phase is giving Infinity Ward an opportunity to identify problems before October.
Early hands-on impressions suggest that Modern Warfare 4 is aiming for a balance between the tactical feel associated with Modern Warfare and the faster combat expected from modern Call of Duty.
Movement remains an important part of the experience, but the game is not simply chasing maximum speed. Early coverage has highlighted fluid movement, satisfying gunplay and more deliberate weapon handling.
Infinity Ward is also introducing mechanics designed to give players more tactical options. The multiplayer experience includes tools for controlling areas, aggressive movement options and different approaches to engagements.
The result could be a more flexible meta where players can choose between rushing, holding angles or using equipment to control important areas of the map.
The MW4 beta already includes a selection of weapons, equipment, perks and killstreaks for players to unlock and test.
However, beta progression will not carry directly into the full game. Player rank, weapon unlocks and other beta progression are reset when the test ends, although eligible beta rewards will remain connected to players' Activision Accounts and become available when the game launches.
That means the beta is primarily about learning the systems, testing loadouts and finding the strongest combinations before launch.
The full release of Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled for October 23, 2026, giving Infinity Ward several weeks to respond to beta feedback and polish the final experience.
The next major milestone is Weekend Two. Because the open beta is available to everyone, the player population should increase dramatically, giving developers significantly more data on matchmaking, server performance, weapon balance and popular playstyles.
The beta is also an important opportunity for players who are still undecided about MW4. Rather than relying on trailers or early leaks, players can experience the multiplayer mechanics directly and decide whether the new direction works for them.
· Weapon balance: Watch which assault rifles and SMGs dominate the beta.
· Movement: Pay attention to whether speed feels balanced against tactical positioning.
· Audio: Footstep volume and directional audio are already receiving adjustments.
· Matchmaking: Community feedback around SBMM remains a major discussion point.
· Maps: New layouts could heavily influence the launch meta.
· Performance: Cross-platform optimization will remain important as more players enter the open beta.
Modern Warfare 4 has reached its most important testing period, and the latest beta updates suggest Infinity Ward is actively reacting to player feedback rather than waiting until launch COD MW4 Bot Lobbies. With the open beta arriving on August 28 and the full game launching October 23, the next few weeks should reveal whether MW4 can deliver the comeback many Call of Duty fans are hoping for.
For now, the strongest move is simple: jump into the open beta, test different weapons and movement options, and watch how the meta evolves before launch.
