Path of Exile 2's Return of the Ancients update doesn't just add new content—it changes how players approach the endgame altogether. One of the biggest additions in Patch 0.5 is the new Masters of the Atlas system, which gives players much more control over how their maps function and what rewards they want to target POE 2 Orbs.
Instead of simply running maps and hoping for good outcomes, you can now customize parts of the experience before entering a map. Whether you're farming bosses, chasing loot, or looking for a safer mapping experience, Atlas Masters let you tailor your endgame strategy to fit your goals.
What Are Atlas Masters?
Atlas Masters are special NPCs that provide powerful bonuses to your Atlas progression. There are currently three Masters available: Jado, Hilda, and Doryani.
Each Master has their own progression tree made up of 12 passive nodes arranged across four tiers. You can activate four nodes at a time, and the best part is that you're free to switch between Masters whenever you want before opening a new map.
That flexibility makes the system surprisingly approachable. You're not locked into a single farming strategy and can easily swap setups depending on what content you're planning to run.
1. Jado's Spycraft
If your main goal is maximizing loot and improving map efficiency, Jado will probably be your first choice.
His passives focus heavily on Strongboxes, chests, map layouts, and additional item rewards. Several of his nodes increase the number and quality of loot containers that appear in maps, while others improve boss rewards.
Some notable bonuses include:
Increased chance for Strongboxes to become Unique.
Additional Unique item drops from map bosses.
Increased Exceptional Item drops.
Double effectiveness for certain Precursor Tablet effects.
One particularly interesting feature allows Corrupted Waystones to generate different map layouts, making it easier to avoid maps you dislike and reroll into something more favorable.
For players who spend most of their time farming maps, Jado offers some of the most practical bonuses available.
2. Hilda's Huntsmanship
Hilda takes a very different approach.
Her entire tree is focused on making bosses and powerful enemies more rewarding. Naturally, that also means making them more dangerous.
Many of her passives interact with Azmeri Spirits and map bosses. Instead of empowering random rare monsters, spirits can be redirected toward unique enemies, creating tougher encounters with better rewards.
Some of her known bonuses include:
Increased chances for upgraded map bosses.
Additional map bosses replacing rare monsters.
Improved rewards from possessed unique enemies.
Spirits focusing exclusively on boss encounters.
The standout node is Will of the Draiocht. It limits Pinnacle Boss fights to a single portal attempt, but guarantees additional exclusive boss uniques if you succeed.
It's a high-risk option, but boss-focused players will likely find it extremely rewarding.
3. Doryani's Science
Doryani sits somewhere in the middle of the other two Masters.
Rather than focusing entirely on loot or bossing, his passives provide a mixture of utility, survivability, and reward scaling.
Some examples include:
An additional revival during maps.
Increased effectiveness of Waystone modifiers.
More item rarity from Magic Monsters.
Modified Azmeri Spirit behavior.
The extra revival can be particularly useful when learning difficult content, while the increased rarity bonuses provide a steady boost to general mapping rewards.
Because his bonuses are so flexible, Doryani works well for players who don't want to specialize too heavily in a single farming strategy.
Which Atlas Master Should You Choose?
The answer depends entirely on what you're trying to accomplish.
Choose Jado if you want more loot, stronger chest rewards, and better map control.
Choose Hilda if your focus is boss farming and chasing valuable unique drops.
Choose Doryani if you prefer a balanced setup with additional safety and flexible bonuses Exalted Orb.
The good news is that you're never permanently committed. Since Atlas Masters can be swapped freely, experimenting with different setups is encouraged.
