Punishment is a core Templar skill used in both damage dealing and survivability. As you level up your character, you’ll realize that this skill becomes crucial for tanking high-level bosses. At its base level, Punishment is a charge skill. The longer you hold it, the more powerful it becomes, eventually unlocking special effects that enhance your tanking ability and help you maintain aggro.
This is why leveling it up should be a priority, especially if you’re focusing on tanking content like difficult dungeons and raids. A well-leveled Punishment helps you control aggro better, increases your damage output, and boosts your survivability with its Lifesteal feature.
Leveling up Punishment is a multi-step process, and there are a few different ways to enhance it. Here's how you can do it:
The most straightforward way to level up Punishment is through Skill Points (SP). These points are earned as you level up your character, but you can also get them from Wisdom Stones. To level up Punishment using SP, open your Skills menu (default key 'K'), find the Punishment skill, and manually upgrade it.
You can level it up to Level 10 using just Skill Points. As you level up, you’ll unlock different tiers of power for Punishment, improving both its damage and the effects it has when used.
Once you hit Level 10 with Punishment, you’ll need to use the Daevanion Board to continue leveling the skill. The Daevanion Board is unlocked through character progression and allows you to invest points to increase the skill’s level past the standard cap.
With the Daevanion Board, you can push Punishment to Level 16 and beyond. This gives you access to even better features that significantly improve Punishment’s effectiveness in both PvE and PvP situations.
Certain gear in Aion 2 can directly impact the level of your skills. High-rarity equipment often provides bonuses to specific skills, including Punishment. If you’re focusing on maximizing Punishment, you’ll want to look for gear that adds +Levels to the skill.
When you combine this with other sources, like Skill Points or the Daevanion Board, you can gain up to +6 levels from your equipment. This can be a huge help in reaching those higher-level skill breakpoints.
Another way to boost your Punishment skill level is through the Arcana System. By equipping specific Arcana cards, which you can obtain in Transcendence Dungeons, you can further enhance your skill’s power. The Arcana System can be especially useful for getting those extra levels when you’re already close to your max skill limit.
As you level up Punishment, you’ll reach certain “breakpoints” that unlock special effects called Specialties. These are optional bonuses that can significantly improve your performance. Let’s go over the key breakpoints:
When you hit Level 8 with Punishment, you unlock one of the following specialties. You can choose the one that best fits your playstyle:
Lifesteal: This specialty allows you to recover 10% of the damage dealt as HP. This is crucial for survivability, especially in long fights where you’re taking heavy damage.
DoT (Damage over Time): This option inflicts additional damage to your target over time. This is a great way to keep dealing damage even when you're focusing on defense.
Speed: Increases Punishment’s Skill Speed by +30%, making it faster to charge and use, which can be vital in high-paced encounters.
When you reach Level 16 with Punishment, you unlock one of the most important abilities for high-end content: Ignore Defenses. This allows your Punishment to bypass Block and Evasion. In practice, this means you can land more consistent hits on high-level bosses who would normally evade or block your attacks. This is especially important for Templars tanking raid bosses where maintaining aggro is crucial.
Charging: Punishment is a charge skill, which means the longer you hold it, the stronger it becomes. The maximum level of the charge is Level 3, and this gives you the highest Stagger Gauge damage, which helps to stun enemies. Always try to charge it fully before using it in combat to get the most out of it.
Respecs: As you progress, you may decide to focus on different skills. If that happens, you can reset your Skill Points for a small Kina fee. This gives you the flexibility to adjust your build without too much hassle.
Gear and Arcana: Don’t forget that certain gear and Arcana cards can play a huge role in leveling up Punishment. If you want to maximize your skill’s effectiveness, invest in high-rarity gear and equip Arcana cards that boost Punishment.
Strategic Use: Punishment is essential for maintaining aggro during tough boss fights. However, it’s not just about the damage you deal; it’s also about the utility it provides. If you’re tanking, make sure you’re charging it to full potential before engaging.
Buy Aion Kinah: If you're looking to acquire high-rarity gear or Arcana cards, sometimes it’s more time-efficient to buy Aion Kinah to acquire the items you need. This can speed up the process of leveling Punishment by allowing you to purchase the right gear instead of grinding for it.
Punishment is a core skill for Templars in Aion 2, and it’s essential to level it up to maximize your potential in both offense and defense. By using Skill Points, the Daevanion Board, gear stats, and Arcana, you can gradually level it up to unlock powerful specialties like Lifesteal and Ignore Defenses. As you progress, make sure to charge it to full potential and use it strategically to deal more damage and maintain aggro during boss fights.
